The Philippines does not expect its defence relationship with the United States to be diminished as Washington redeploys some military resources to the Middle East, according to statements made by a Manila official on Monday.
The reassurance comes as the US manages competing security interests across multiple regions, including the Indo-Pacific where the Philippines maintains a mutual defence treaty with Washington. The two countries have significantly expanded military cooperation in recent years, including joint exercises and training operations.
Philippine defence officials indicated confidence that the strategic partnership remains a priority for both nations despite the Middle East redeployment. The US maintains defence commitments across the region while managing broader global security concerns, they noted.
The two countries' 1951 Mutual Defence Treaty has served as the cornerstone of their security relationship for decades. Recent years have seen intensified joint military activities and enhanced cooperation frameworks amid regional tensions in the South China Sea.
