The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced Friday that it has tasked the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) with investigating the viability of introducing Public Utility Buses (PUBs) along the LRT-2 corridor. The directive came from Transportation Secretary Giovanni "Banoy" Lopez as part of efforts to address passenger mobility challenges caused by limited train operations. The proposed bus service would run parallel to the existing rail route, providing commuters with an additional transport option during periods when LRT-2 capacity is constrained. Both agencies have been instructed to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study examining operational logistics, route planning, and resource requirements for the initiative. The DOTr's move reflects ongoing efforts to enhance the country's public transport network and reduce congestion on major commuter routes in Metro Manila.
