Health workers from Valencia City in Bukidnon province traveled to remote Sinabuagan Integrated School in Barangay Sinabuagan on Thursday to administer vaccines to learners as part of the nationwide launch. The 30-minute journey off the main highway underscores efforts by the Department of Health and Department of Education to reach schoolchildren in distant communities.
Rural health midwife Jonalyn Jaime Malunes led the Valencia City Health Office team to the school, demonstrating the coordination between local government units and national agencies in implementing the immunization program. The school-based approach allows health personnel to vaccinate students at their educational facilities, reducing barriers to access in remote barangays.
The program represents a significant step in the Philippines' public health strategy to ensure comprehensive immunization coverage among school-age children. By leveraging schools as vaccination centers, health authorities aim to improve immunization rates while reducing the logistical burden on families in far-flung areas. The initiative is expected to benefit thousands of learners nationwide as the rollout continues across regions.
