MANILA — The Department of Interior and Local Government has linked 11 individuals to a major drug trafficking operation following the interception of over half a ton of methamphetamine in Laos. Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla disclosed the names of the persons of interest during a briefing at Malacañan Palace on Friday, identifying them as key figures in the smuggling attempt.

Among those named is a former official of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority Parliament, signaling potential involvement of individuals with government connections in the narcotics trade. The 521-kilogram shabu haul represents one of the largest drug seizures linked to the Philippines in recent months.

Remulla did not provide additional details regarding the specific roles allegedly played by each person of interest or the extent of their suspected involvement in the trafficking network. The investigation into the case is ongoing as authorities work to establish the full scope of the operation and identify additional suspects.

The seizure underscores persistent concerns about drug trafficking routes through Southeast Asia targeting the Philippines. Officials have intensified efforts to disrupt smuggling networks operating across the region's borders.
