MANILA — The Department of Health (DOH) has recorded a decline in dengue cases during the most recent reporting cycle, offering a glimmer of progress in the ongoing battle against the mosquito-borne illness.
From September 17 to September 30, dengue cases totaled 22,095, representing a two percent decrease from the 22,479 cases documented in the previous two-week period ending September 16. The reduction marks a welcome reversal in the disease's trajectory during a critical surveillance period.
The DOH's latest epidemiological report also tracked leptospirosis cases nationwide, which similarly showed improvement compared to earlier reporting periods. Health officials attribute monitoring efforts and ongoing disease prevention campaigns to the modest gains in controlling both illnesses.
Despite the decline, health authorities remain vigilant as dengue and leptospirosis continue to pose significant public health challenges during the wet season. The DOH has urged residents to maintain preventive measures, including mosquito control and proper sanitation practices, to sustain the downward trend in case numbers.
