Philippines to Deploy 13 New Pumping Stations in Metro Manila Flood Fight

MANILA — The National Capital Region will receive 13 additional pumping stations as part of efforts to mitigate persistent flooding that affects millions of residents, the government announced Thursday.
The new facilities will supplement the 73 pumping stations currently operated by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, representing a significant expansion of the region's drainage infrastructure. President Marcos outlined the deployment during recent remarks, emphasizing the administration's commitment to addressing one of Metro Manila's most persistent environmental challenges.
According to the presidential timeline, the pumping stations are expected to commence operations by the end of this year or in early 2027. The expansion comes as the government intensifies efforts to reduce flood risks across the densely populated capital region, which regularly experiences severe inundation during monsoon seasons and tropical storms.
The MMDA, which oversees metropolitan flood management operations, will assume responsibility for maintaining and operating the additional stations once they become functional. Officials have not yet disclosed the total investment required for the project or provided specific locations for the new facilities.
