MANILA — The Stratbase Institute has warned that the Philippines must prioritize cybersecurity improvements to address mounting threats from cyberattacks while establishing proper oversight of emerging artificial intelligence technologies.

The think tank's advisory comes as the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development moves toward releasing the nation's inaugural AI governance framework, with officials indicating a September launch date following initial presentations to stakeholders.

Stratbase emphasized that effective implementation of the new framework will require closer coordination and collaboration among relevant government agencies tasked with regulating AI development and deployment across the country. The institute highlighted that cybersecurity infrastructure must be fortified to protect critical systems and data as reliance on AI applications grows in both public and private sectors.

The proposed governance framework is designed to guide the responsible development and use of artificial intelligence in the Philippines, balancing innovation with public interest protection. As digital threats continue to evolve, experts stress that the government's ability to enforce robust cybersecurity standards will be crucial to ensuring the safe integration of AI technologies into Philippine society and the economy.
