Phu Quoc authorities have prioritized water supply expansion as part of broader infrastructure preparations for the 2027 APEC summit. The island province is investing in two significant water infrastructure projects: the Cua Can Reservoir and Water Plant, and the Duong Dong 2 Reservoir and Water Plant.
The combined facilities are designed to increase daily water supply capacity by 86,000 cubic meters, substantially expanding the island's treatment and distribution capabilities. The projects address longstanding infrastructure constraints on Phu Quoc, which has experienced rapid tourism growth and population increases in recent years.
Water supply represents one of several critical infrastructure areas where Phu Quoc has initiated accelerated development timelines. Earlier efforts have included adjustments to international airport planning and enhancements to air traffic control systems, all coordinated to support the anticipated influx of delegates and visitors during the APEC forum.
The timing of these water infrastructure upgrades reflects Vietnam's broader strategy to position Phu Quoc as a world-class destination capable of hosting major international events. Officials have indicated that completion of both water projects remains on schedule to ensure adequate supply throughout 2027 and beyond.
