Phu Quoc's iconic phoenix terminal progresses toward APEC 2027 debut

Work on Phu Quoc International Airport's second terminal has entered a critical phase, with construction teams focusing on roof installation and ceiling systems after more than a year of building activity. The ambitious project features a striking architectural design inspired by the mythical fire phoenix, symbolizing renewal and prosperity.

The terminal's distinctive form will be enhanced by approximately 9,800 glass panels currently being installed across the structure. These transparent elements are designed to flood the interior with natural light while maintaining the building's iconic silhouette visible from the airfield.

Official timelines indicate the terminal should be operational before Vietnam assumes the rotating presidency of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in 2027. The $836 million investment underscores efforts to expand capacity at the major gateway airport serving Phu Quoc Island, one of Vietnam's premier tourist destinations.

Once completed, Terminal 2 is expected to significantly enhance passenger handling capabilities at the airport while providing visitors with a welcoming first impression of the island destination. The project represents part of broader infrastructure development initiatives across southern Vietnam ahead of the anticipated APEC meetings.
