Provincial leaders in Phu Quoc have launched a series of field inspections to accelerate infrastructure development ahead of Vietnam's hosting of APEC 2027, targeting critical bottlenecks that threaten project timelines. The push addresses persistent challenges including land allocation procedures, counterpart funding availability, and construction material supplies, obstacles that have intensified during the rainy season.
The accelerated pace reflects Vietnam's broader preparation for its role as APEC chair, with the country outlining ambitious financial and developmental priorities for the summit year. On October 21, Vietnam is set to assume the chair of the APEC Finance Ministers' Process, signaling the start of formal leadership responsibilities for coordinating regional economic cooperation initiatives.
As Vietnam moves forward with hosting preparations, officials have also examined approaches used by China during its previous APEC chairmanship, seeking insights into logistical management, infrastructure coordination, and diplomatic protocol. The comparative analysis is intended to inform Vietnam's organizational strategy and ensure the island destination is adequately prepared for the high-profile gathering of regional leaders and officials.
With approximately two years remaining before the summit, provincial authorities have prioritized resolving supply and funding constraints to maintain construction schedules. Regular field inspections by leadership are expected to continue as a mechanism for identifying emerging obstacles and ensuring coordinated action across government agencies and private contractors involved in development projects.
