Pacific International Lines (PIL), Southeast Asia's leading shipping operator, has announced the appointment of Wan Chee Foong as group chief executive designate, signalling a leadership transition at the regional maritime heavyweight.
Wan will join PIL as deputy chief executive in October 2025, providing a transition period before formally assuming the chief executive role in April 2027. He will succeed Lars Kastrup, who has led the Singapore-based container shipping company through a period of significant market challenges and strategic repositioning.
The appointment underscores PIL's commitment to succession planning and continuity at the executive level. The company, which operates one of the region's largest container shipping fleets, has maintained its position as a key player in Southeast Asian maritime logistics despite industry headwinds in recent years.
The six-month overlap between Wan's appointment as deputy CEO and his assumption of the top role is intended to ensure a smooth handover of responsibilities and maintain operational stability during the transition period.
