Pinsal Falls in Barangay Babal-lasioan, Santa Maria municipality, reopened its gates to tourists on Saturday, Aug. 22, marking the return of one of Ilocos Sur's most significant natural attractions. The decision to resume operations followed a comprehensive assessment of local conditions and safety protocols by municipal authorities.
Municipal Mayor Michael Florendo, who chairs the local disaster management office, authorized the reopening after confirming that weather patterns had stabilized and disaster risks in the area had diminished. The waterfall, which attracts visitors from across the region, had been temporarily closed due to unfavorable weather conditions that posed safety concerns for tourists and facility staff.
The reopening comes as relief to tourism operators and residents dependent on visitor activity. Local officials have indicated that standard safety measures remain in place to monitor conditions and ensure visitor welfare. Authorities have not disclosed details on any structural or facility upgrades implemented during the closure period.
