Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari has rejected implications that PKR orchestrated the khalwat arrest of fellow party member Nik Nazmi Md Salleh, characterising such accusations as a distraction from the party's core agenda.
Amirudin told reporters that PKR is focused on substantive governance issues rather than becoming entangled in what he described as political manoeuvres by rival parties. He suggested that attributing the arrest to PKR reflected a misunderstanding of the party's priorities and operations.
The khalwat arrest, which falls under Islamic law enforcement in Malaysia, has drawn public attention following Nik Nazmi's prominent role within PKR. However, Amirudin's statement seeks to distance the party from any involvement in the matter.
As PKR's deputy president, Amirudin's comments represent an official party position, emphasising that internal party discipline and response to such incidents operate separately from the party's strategic focus on political governance and policy implementation.
