Plumber credits TV series after helping save aircraft from hijacker

Hayoun, a plumber by trade, recounted how he joined other passengers in overpowering the co-pilot who had attacked the captain with a knife during the flight. After the crew member was subdued, Hayoun moved into the cockpit, took control of the aircraft and began operating the flight controls to stabilise the plane.
The passenger credited exposure to televised air disaster documentaries and dramatisations with giving him the knowledge and composure needed to act decisively during the life-threatening emergency. He noted that watching such programmes had familiarised him with basic cockpit procedures and the importance of swift action in crisis situations.
The incident marked a remarkable example of a civilian passenger stepping in to manage an aircraft during an in-flight emergency. Aviation authorities later commended those involved for their quick thinking and cooperation in preventing what could have been a catastrophic outcome. The flight safely reached its destination with all passengers and crew accounted for following the dramatic intervention.
