Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya participated in the ceremonial ringing of the market opening bell at the Colombo Stock Exchange on 5 October 2026, lending her patronage to the global observance of World Investor Week (WIW). The initiative, coordinated by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka and the CSE, aligned the local bourse with stock exchanges worldwide in prioritizing financial literacy and investor protection.

World Investor Week, an annual campaign supported by the International Organization of Securities Commissions, aims to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed investment decisions. By participating in the global initiative, Sri Lanka's capital markets regulators demonstrated their commitment to building investor confidence and expanding public participation in the securities market.

The Prime Minister's presence at the CSE underscored the government's recognition of financial literacy as a cornerstone of economic development and inclusive growth. Enhanced investor education initiatives are expected to contribute to broader financial inclusion and the development of a more robust domestic capital market.

The Securities and Exchange Commission and Colombo Stock Exchange have intensified efforts in recent years to promote awareness of investment fundamentals and market safeguards among Sri Lankan households and small investors, with World Investor Week serving as a key platform for these outreach activities.
