PM CARES Fund donations decline sharply; corpus reaches ₹8,452 crore

The PM CARES Fund's total balance climbed to ₹8,452 crore as of March 31, 2025, up from ₹7,173 crore a year earlier, despite the significant decline in incoming donations during the fiscal year.

According to audited statements, the fund held ₹7,846 crore in fixed deposits and ₹605 crore in savings bank accounts. Foreign donations during 2024-25 totalled ₹92.8 lakh, down from ₹1.13 crore in the previous fiscal year.

The contraction in donations marks a notable shift from the previous year, when the fund had received domestic contributions of ₹681.8 crore. The decline comes as the fund continues to play a supporting role in emergency relief and assistance operations.

Payouts from the PM CARES Fund during 2024-25 totalled ₹87.85 lakh, a sharp decrease from ₹15.6 crore in fiscal 2023-24. Notably, spending under the PM CARES for Children Scheme plummeted to ₹87.8 lakh from ₹15.37 crore in the preceding year.
