As senior BJP leader LK Advani marked his 99th birthday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the veteran politician's contributions to the party and the nation, pointing to two core qualities that have defined his decades-long political career.
Modi emphasised that the ideological positions and resolutions Advani authored during his tenure in the Jana Sangh—the BJP's ideological precursor—and subsequently in the BJP, remain vital reading for party members and Indian citizens alike. The Prime Minister's remarks underscored the intellectual and principled approach Advani brought to Indian political discourse over his long career.
Advani, who has been a towering figure in Indian politics since the pre-independence era, served in various capacities including as Deputy Prime Minister. His work in shaping the Jana Sangh and later the BJP established him as one of the principal architects of the saffron party's ideological framework.
The recognition of Advani's contributions comes as the BJP reflects on the party's foundational figures and their continuing influence on its political orientation and policy direction. Modi's remarks reflect the respect accorded to Advani within party circles for his role in developing and articulating the BJP's core principles.
