PM Modi to inaugurate Chennai Metro Phase 2 extension project

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate Phase 2 of the Chennai Metro Rail project, marking a significant expansion of the city's rapid transit infrastructure. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is expected to join the PM for the launch event, underscoring the project's importance to the state's development agenda.

The new corridor will connect Poonamallee to Vadapalani, extending metro connectivity to areas currently underserved by rapid transit. The extension aims to decongest major thoroughfares and provide commuters with a faster, more reliable travel option.

Operational plans for the corridor indicate that 15 trains will run during the initial phase of operations. During peak hours, trains will arrive at intervals of 10 minutes, ensuring adequate capacity to handle daily commuter demand. The frequency is expected to enhance accessibility for residents and office-goers across the service corridor.

The Chennai Metro Rail project represents a broader push by the central and state governments to modernize urban transportation infrastructure across India. Metro rail systems have become critical to managing congestion in major metropolitan areas while promoting sustainable urban mobility.
