PM Modi to witness NSD's grand Anandamath stage adaptation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend a stage adaptation of Anandamath, the iconic Bengali novel by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, on the eve of National Unity Day. The production is being mounted by the prestigious National School of Drama (NSD) in New Delhi.

The theatrical presentation represents an ambitious undertaking, with approximately 300 artists collaborating to bring the story to life. The scale of the production is reflected in its stage setup, which spans 100 feet by 100 feet, providing the performers with a vast canvas for the narrative.

Anandamath, published in 1882, remains one of India's most influential literary works. The novel is set during the Sannyasi Rebellion of the 18th century and explores themes of patriotism, spirituality, and social change. Its adaptation for the stage comes as India continues to commemorate National Unity Day, observed on November 31st, marking the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

The National School of Drama, an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Culture, has established itself as a leading institution for theatrical training and production in India. This adaptation underscores the NSD's commitment to staging culturally significant works that resonate with contemporary audiences while celebrating India's literary heritage.
