PMK hails Tamil Nadu cabinet approval for Social Justice Survey

The Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) on Wednesday expressed satisfaction over the Tamil Nadu cabinet's approval for a social justice survey, describing it as a significant development for the state's marginalized communities. Party president Anbumani Ramadoss said the survey represented a 47-year aspiration for the PMK and was essential to preserve Tamil Nadu's existing 69 per cent reservation framework.

The survey is expected to provide updated data on the socio-economic conditions of various communities in the state, which could inform future policy decisions regarding affirmative action and welfare schemes. Officials believe the exercise will offer a comprehensive assessment of social inequalities across Tamil Nadu's diverse population.

Ramadoss urged the government to expedite the implementation of the survey without further delay. The party has consistently advocated for mechanisms to protect and strengthen the state's reservation system, which remains one of India's most extensive social justice frameworks.

The cabinet's green light for the survey comes amid ongoing debates across the country about the relevance and scope of caste-based reservations. Tamil Nadu has long maintained higher reservation percentages compared to the national constitutional ceiling of 50 per cent, a distinction that successive governments have sought to preserve through various legal measures.
