PMK leader flags 'massive scam' in Pallikaranai marshland development plans

The PMK leader has raised concerns over what he characterises as a major fraud in the implementation of development initiatives at Pallikaranai marshland, a critical wetland ecosystem in Chennai. Anbumani Ramadoss has urged the state government to intervene immediately to prevent further damage to the marshland and its intricate natural drainage channels, which play a vital role in the region's water management.

The allegation comes amid growing environmental concerns over construction and development projects in the area. Pallikaranai marshland, one of South India's largest remaining wetlands, has long been subject to pressure from urbanisation and infrastructure development. Conservationists have repeatedly flagged the ecological risks posed by unchecked project implementation in the fragile ecosystem.

Ramadoss has specifically requested Chief Minister Vijay to review the projects and take corrective action. The intervention call highlights tensions between development imperatives and environmental preservation in Chennai, where wetland protection remains contested. The marshland's drainage functions are particularly critical during monsoon seasons, affecting flood management across the city.
