PMO involvement in Jana Wibawa procurement confirmed, but no directive given

KUALA LUMPUR — Testimony in the ongoing investigation into the Jana Wibawa procurement has revealed that the Prime Minister's Office maintained involvement in the government's decision-making process, according to a Finance Ministry official who appeared as a witness.
The witness clarified, however, that while the PMO was engaged in discussions surrounding the procurement, there was no direct order issued to select KCJ Engineering as the preferred contractor for the project.
The distinction between involvement and directive carries significance as investigators examine the procedures followed during the procurement process. The testimony suggests that consultation between the PMO and Finance Ministry occurred, a practice not uncommon in major government projects.
The Jana Wibawa procurement has drawn scrutiny following questions about the selection process and the eventual award of the contract.
