PN, PAS to field 7-10 candidates in Melaka state election

Perikatan Nasional deputy chairman Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man revealed that the coalition and Umno have established a basic allocation framework ahead of the Melaka state election, with PN and PAS positioned to contest between seven and ten seats.

The seat-sharing arrangement signals an attempt by the two parties to coordinate their electoral strategy in the state, where factional tensions within the ruling coalition have previously threatened stability. The preliminary framework represents efforts to present a unified front despite ongoing disputes over seat distribution in various state-level contests.

Tuan Ibrahim, who also serves as PAS deputy president, did not provide specific details on which constituencies would be allocated to either party under the agreement. The coalition's seat allocation in Melaka will test the durability of PN's internal cohesion and its capacity to negotiate power-sharing arrangements with Umno.

The Melaka state assembly comprises 36 seats, making the PN-PAS allocation a relatively modest portion of the legislature. The seat allocation framework is expected to be finalised in the coming weeks as campaigning draws closer.
