PN to contest more than four seats in Melaka state election

Perikatan Nasional (PN) has signalled its intention to contest more than four seats in the Melaka state election, with the exact number to be finalised after discussions with Umno, the coalition's deputy chairman said.

The announcement comes as political parties prepare for the state polls, with seat allocation negotiations underway between PN and Umno, its primary partner in the Madani government at the federal level.

PN's participation in the election reflects efforts by the coalition to strengthen its presence in the state, which has seen political volatility in recent years. The coalition previously held limited representation in Melaka's state assembly.

Umno, as the larger coalition partner, is expected to take the majority of contested seats, though the exact distribution remains subject to ongoing talks between the two parties. Political analysts have noted that seat-sharing agreements in state elections often reflect the balance of power within federal ruling coalitions.

The finalised seat allocation is expected to be announced following the completion of negotiations between PN and Umno leadership, allowing both parties to present a united front ahead of nomination day.
