PN to sacrifice electoral gains for Malacca alliance with BN

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has confirmed that the Perikatan Nasional bloc is prepared to forgo potentially larger electoral gains in the forthcoming Malacca state assembly polls to facilitate a working alliance with Barisan Nasional. The decision reflects a strategic shift in opposition coalition dynamics as both groupings seek to consolidate support ahead of the state election.

Hadi framed the compromise as essential for advancing what PAS characterises as Malay Muslim unity, suggesting the pact represents a broader political realignment aimed at strengthening Islamic-Malay representation in the state legislature. The move signals both parties' recognition that a divided opposition could fragment the vote and weaken their collective position.

The agreement would see PN, which includes PAS, PKR, and other constituent parties, accept reduced candidate nominations in certain constituencies to prevent direct competition with BN-backed hopefuls. The exact seat distribution under the arrangement remained subject to finalisation between the coalition partners.
