Authorities have launched a probe into alleged irregularities at a Punjab National Bank (PNB) branch located in Sector Pi-1 of Greater Noida, following complaints from multiple account holders reporting missing funds. The allegations suggest widespread unauthorised withdrawals from customer accounts over an unspecified period.
One account holder discovered that their fixed deposit balance had depleted from 94 lakh rupees to approximately 16,000 rupees, according to the complaint. In a separate case at the same branch, another customer reported the disappearance of 1.29 crore rupees from their account, raising concerns about potential systemic lapses in account security and transaction monitoring.
The cases have prompted immediate scrutiny of the branch's operational procedures and internal controls. Banking officials have begun reviewing transaction records and account access logs to determine the nature and extent of the unauthorised transactions. The investigation is expected to clarify whether the incidents resulted from staff misconduct, security vulnerabilities, or other systemic failures.
PNB has not yet issued an official statement regarding the matter. Typically, banks are required to conduct internal audits and notify regulatory authorities such as the Reserve Bank of India when significant deposit discrepancies are identified, particularly where customer negligence can be ruled out.
