PNB probe uncovers misuse of employee credentials in Greater Noida fraud

Punjab National Bank's Greater Noida branch has come under scrutiny following a probe that identified the unauthorized use of employee credentials to execute fraudulent transactions. The investigation determined that the core banking system (CBS) login identities of a senior branch manager, a senior customer service associate, and two additional staff members were utilized to carry out the illicit operations.

The systematic misuse of legitimate employee access points represents a significant breach in the bank's internal security protocols. The involvement of multiple staff members across different operational levels suggests a coordinated effort to circumvent standard transaction verification procedures.

The findings raise serious concerns about access control mechanisms and employee oversight at the branch. Banks typically maintain multiple authentication layers to prevent unauthorized transactions, but the exploitation of multiple employee credentials indicates potential gaps in monitoring and internal audit systems.

PNB has not yet disclosed the total value of transactions involved or whether disciplinary action has been initiated against the implicated employees. The matter assumes added significance given recurring instances of internal fraud within India's banking sector, underscoring the need for enhanced digital security frameworks and personnel accountability measures.
