Punjab National Bank (PNB) has settled three separate claims worth Rs 43 lakh related to fraudulent activities at its Greater Noida branch, marking partial resolution of a larger banking scandal that has affected dozens of customers.
The development follows accusations by nearly 24 account holders who reported unauthorized withdrawals and misappropriation of funds totalling over Rs 11.24 crore from their savings accounts and fixed deposits. The fraud case had highlighted significant lapses in oversight and account management at the branch.
While the three settled claims represent a fraction of the total alleged fraud amount, they indicate the bank's acknowledgment of customer grievances and effort to address the matter through compensation. The resolution process underscores growing scrutiny on PSU lenders' internal controls and customer protection mechanisms.
The Greater Noida branch fraud case had raised concerns about fund security in banking institutions and prompted regulatory attention. Authorities continue to investigate the broader circumstances surrounding the alleged misappropriation to determine accountability and prevent similar incidents.
