PNP awaits court warrant for Romualdez in plunder case
The Philippine National Police's Criminal Investigation and Detection Group said Monday it has not yet received an arrest warrant for former House Speaker Martin Romualdez following plunder charges filed by the Ombudsman. The agency said it stands ready to implement the mandate once the Sandiganbayan issues the necessary court order.

The PNP–CIDG confirmed that the Sandiganbayan's Third Division has received the plunder case against Romualdez but has not yet issued a warrant for his arrest. The presidential cousin and Leyte representative faces the charges after the Office of the Ombudsman filed the case and it was raffled to the high court on Monday.
Despite the absence of an arrest warrant, the PNP–CIDG said it remains prepared to carry out enforcement procedures once the court issues the necessary documentation. The agency's readiness reflects standard protocol in cases where high-profile officials face criminal charges.
The plunder case marks a significant development in Romualdez's legal standing. As former Speaker and a prominent member of the Romualdez family, any court action against him draws considerable attention given his position in Philippine politics and government.
The Sandiganbayan is expected to proceed with the case according to standard judicial procedures. Romualdez has not yet made public statements regarding the charges.
