Philippine National Police chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. inspected key transportation facilities in Quezon City and Manila on Friday, prioritizing security preparations for the upcoming Undas break. The unannounced visits included stops at bus terminals in Cubao and the sprawling Manila North Cemetery, two locations expected to experience significant congestion during the All Saints' and All Souls' Days holidays.
During the inspection rounds, Nartatez evaluated existing security protocols at the transportation hubs and reviewed the overall conditions of the facilities. Officials assessed crowd management procedures and safety measures ahead of the anticipated influx of travelers heading to various destinations for the traditional holiday observance.
The inspection reflects the PNP's commitment to ensuring public safety during peak travel periods. Undas, celebrated annually on November 1-2, traditionally draws large numbers of Filipinos visiting cemeteries and traveling to provincial destinations, placing considerable strain on transportation infrastructure and public safety resources.
The PNP has made advance preparations a priority to manage potential security challenges and maintain order at critical transportation nodes during the holiday period. Officials are expected to deploy additional personnel at key locations to facilitate smooth operations and enhance passenger safety throughout the holiday season.
