PNP confirms Discord use, says operations unaffected by temporary ban

MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed its reliance on Discord as a communication tool while downplaying the impact of a temporary shutdown of the social media platform earlier this week.
During a Friday press briefing, PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Allen Rae Co stated that Discord is among several platforms utilized by the police force for its day-to-day operations. Despite the 24-hour ban, Co said the organization's core functions remained uninterrupted.
The acknowledgment comes as the PNP faces scrutiny over its digital infrastructure and communication protocols. The temporary blocking of Discord, which is widely used for group messaging and voice communications, raised questions about the extent of the police force's dependence on the platform.
Co did not provide details about which specific PNP units or divisions utilize Discord or the extent of the platform's integration into police operations. The agency has not clarified what prompted the earlier ban or the circumstances that led to its lifting after 24 hours.
