MANILA — The Philippine National Police deployed personnel and vehicles across the capital Monday as transport group Manibela commenced the first day of a three-day strike over fare hike concerns.
The strike action precedes a separate two-day work stoppage by transport group Piston, scheduled to begin Tuesday. Both groups are protesting Monday's fare increase, which they contend falls short of their demands.
Police presence was established to ensure public order and facilitate the movement of commuters navigating the disruptions caused by the coordinated labor actions. The deployments reflect efforts to minimize the impact on the traveling public during the period of transport service reductions.
