MANILA — The Philippine National Police is expanding its investigative scope to target online predators who groom minors into perpetrating acts of violence, according to agency leadership.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. emphasized that police oversight has moved beyond traditional community and street-level operations. "Police presence is not only active and visible on the streets and in the community," he said, underscoring the force's commitment to establishing a digital enforcement footprint.
The initiative represents a coordinated response to emerging threats posed by internet-based manipulation of young people. Authorities have identified a pattern wherein online actors deliberately cultivate relationships with minors to influence them toward violent behavior, a tactic law enforcement officials describe as particularly insidious given its hidden nature and psychological manipulation tactics.
