The Philippine National Police (PNP) is investigating who generated a false report of an armed attack at De La Salle University-Dasmariñas (DLSU-D) in Cavite province, authorities announced Friday.
PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the investigation aims to identify the source of the fabricated shooting alert and establish whether it was intentionally disseminated. The bogus report circulated Thursday, causing concern among students, staff, and the public before authorities could confirm no such incident had occurred.
The probe will examine how the misinformation spread and whether criminal charges may be warranted against those responsible. False reports of mass violence can trigger unnecessary panic and strain emergency response resources, prompting law enforcement to treat such incidents seriously.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to trace the origin of the hoax and determine the circumstances surrounding its creation and distribution.
