CALAPAN CITY — The Philippine National Police Maritime Group coordinated the evacuation of 173 residents from Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro, on Tuesday morning as severe weather conditions intensified across the province. The operation involved the PNP-Maritime's Abra de Ilog Maritime Law Enforcement Team, which enforced mandatory evacuation orders for residents living in a riverside community vulnerable to flash flooding.
Authorities cited continuous rainfall associated with the southwest monsoon and an active low-pressure area as the primary factors necessitating the precautionary measure. The combination of weather systems has brought persistent moisture and unstable conditions to parts of Mindoro and surrounding provinces in recent days.
Residents were relocated to designated safety zones as a precautionary measure to prevent potential casualties from rising water levels and possible landslides.
