MANILA — The Philippine National Police announced Wednesday that it is undertaking an urgent reassessment of its bomb threat protocols in response to an escalating wave of threats directed at schools and universities in the capital region.
The decision follows multiple bomb threat incidents that forced educational institutions across Metro Manila to halt classes and evacuate students and staff. Senior PNP officials indicated that the recent surge in threats has exposed potential gaps in current response procedures.
"We must ensure that our bomb threat protocols evolve with the threats we face," a PNP spokesperson said, emphasizing the need for updated procedures that address emerging security challenges.
The police review will examine existing threat assessment procedures, inter-agency coordination mechanisms, and evacuation protocols to strengthen response times and effectiveness. The PNP has not disclosed a timeline for completing the assessment or the anticipated scope of protocol modifications.
School administrators and local government units have been coordinating with the PNP throughout the threat incidents. Authorities urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement.
