MANILA — The Philippine National Police declared its unwavering commitment to capturing former Bureau of Corrections chief Gerald Bantag, despite an unsuccessful arrest operation in Ifugao province.
PNP chief General Jose Melencio Nartatez assured the public that law enforcement would persist in its manhunt despite setbacks. "We will not allow the passage of time or repeated attempts to evade arrest to weaken our resolve," Nartatez said in a statement following the failed operation.
Bantag, who previously headed the country's largest penal facility, has remained at large as authorities continue tracking his movements. The failed Ifugao operation marks another chapter in the ongoing pursuit of the fugitive former corrections official.
The PNP has not disclosed specific details about Bantag's whereabouts or the circumstances surrounding the unsuccessful apprehension attempt. The agency's determination to locate and arrest the former BuCor chief underscores the priority placed on bringing him into custody.
