MANILA — The Philippine National Police will equip officers with AI-enabled body cameras to enhance the quality of video documentation during police operations, according to PNP chief General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr.
The police chief explained Friday that the advanced cameras will provide clearer and more reliable footage compared to standard equipment currently in use. The improved image quality is expected to strengthen the agency's ability to preserve evidence and support investigations across various police operations.
The procurement of AI-enabled body cameras represents part of the PNP's broader modernization efforts to upgrade its technological capabilities. Law enforcement agencies worldwide have increasingly adopted body camera programs to improve operational transparency and evidentiary documentation.
The PNP has not yet disclosed the specific timeline for deployment or the number of units to be distributed across its regional and national offices. Further details regarding the procurement process and implementation schedule are expected to be announced in subsequent communications from police headquarters.
