PNP to use extra time to bolster election security preparations

MANILA—The Philippine National Police said Monday it will use the extended timeline following the postponement of barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections to fortify its election security framework.
With the polls now scheduled for November 2028, the PNP said it has sufficient time to conduct a comprehensive review of previous election operations and identify areas requiring improvement. Officials stated the deferment would allow them to evaluate what strategies proved effective in past polls and address shortcomings in their security protocols.
The delay is expected to give various government agencies, including the PNP, the Commission on Elections, and local government units, additional months to coordinate and refine their respective roles in ensuring a secure and orderly election process. The PNP said it plans to use this preparatory period to enhance training programs, strengthen coordination mechanisms with other agencies, and optimize resource deployment across polling precincts nationwide.
The postponement from its originally scheduled date reflects the government's commitment to conducting elections with adequate preparation and security measures in place.
