MANILA — Philippine Normal University (PNU) will award an honorary doctorate in Physical Education and Sports to Secretary Manny Pacquiao during a ceremony on Wednesday, the institution announced. The honour recognises the boxing legend's distinguished career and accomplishments in athletics.
Pacquiao, a former eight-division world champion, was recently appointed as the government's anti-poverty czar by President Ferdinand Marcos. The award marks another milestone in the career of the iconic pugilist, who has combined his sporting achievements with public service roles.
The honorary doctorate, granted honoris causa, underscores Pacquiao's impact on Philippine sports and his continued influence in national affairs. PNU, the country's premier teacher education institution, joins other organisations in recognising his contributions to the sports sector and broader development initiatives.
