Polish authorities have deployed 20,000 police officers across educational institutions as part of an emergency response to escalating youth violence. The move comes after three stabbing incidents occurred within a four-day period, prompting the government to declare school safety a priority.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk has characterised the recent spike in violent behaviour among young people as deeply alarming, signalling a shift in the country's approach to student safety. The deployment represents one of the largest police presence in Polish schools in recent years, with inspections already conducted across 80,000 educational institutions.
Authorities have identified potential connections between violent incidents and exposure to content glorifying violence on the internet and in video games. Among recent cases highlighted by officials was an attack involving a 15-year-old, underscoring concerns about violence among teenagers and pre-teens.
The government has committed to maintaining heightened security measures in schools while investigating the root causes of the violence surge. Officials are examining factors ranging from digital media exposure to social pressures affecting young people, with plans to implement broader preventive measures alongside the police deployment.
