Police have issued a public advisory regarding a growing number of cryptocurrency account thefts occurring through compromised email addresses. Investigators found that a significant portion of the affected email accounts had been previously exposed in data breaches on unrelated platforms, making them vulnerable to coordinated cyber attacks.
The breach pattern suggests that cybercriminals are leveraging previously compromised credentials to gain unauthorized access to cryptocurrency accounts and digital wallets. By cross-referencing exposed email addresses from multiple data breaches, attackers have been able to systematically target users and steal digital assets.
Authorities recommend that cryptocurrency users immediately review their account security settings and enable multi-factor authentication where available. Residents are also advised to check whether their email addresses have appeared in known data breaches through publicly available breach notification services.
Police urged the public to use unique, complex passwords for cryptocurrency accounts and to avoid reusing credentials across multiple platforms.
