Police bust major cigarette smuggling operation in Sultan Kudarat

Law enforcement officers conducted the operations in the municipalities of Kalamansig and another coastal town in Sultan Kudarat, resulting in the confiscation of 2,974 reams of cigarettes valued at P2,544,792.22, according to PRO 12 reports.

The seizures represent a significant blow to smuggling networks operating in the region, which has long served as a transshipment point for contraband goods destined for local markets. The coastal location of the targeted municipalities suggests organized smuggling operations exploiting maritime routes to move illicit products.

Authorities have not yet released details regarding arrests or charges related to the operations. The seized cigarettes are expected to be turned over to appropriate government agencies for further disposition and investigation.

The operations underscore ongoing enforcement efforts by Philippine police to combat smuggling and protect domestic tax revenue from illicit trade networks operating throughout the Mindanao region.
