Law enforcement officers in Perak have taken down an organized gambling network following coordinated operations in Teluk Intan on Tuesday. The arrests come as authorities continue intensifying efforts against illegal gaming operations that exploit digital payment systems to move money across borders.
The 13 individuals detained are suspected of operating an unlicensed gambling syndicate that allegedly utilized Alipay accounts to facilitate financial transactions related to gaming activities. Police say the scheme enabled operators to transfer large sums of gambling proceeds while evading traditional banking scrutiny and regulatory oversight.
Investigations revealed that the syndicate had established multiple accounts with the Chinese digital payment provider, creating a complex money trail that made tracking illicit funds more difficult for authorities. The use of third-party payment platforms has become increasingly common among criminal networks seeking to obscure the source and destination of proceeds from illegal gambling operations.
The Teluk Intan police division is conducting further investigations to identify additional members of the network and recover assets linked to the operation. Authorities have urged the public to report suspected illegal gambling activities, warning that such operations pose significant social and economic risks to communities.
