Police Deny Contact Between Crime Chief and Suspect's Wife
Sri Lanka's Police Media Division has dismissed social media claims that a senior officer communicated with the spouse of a major organised crime suspect. The force said allegations involving the Director of the Colombo Crimes Division are without foundation.

The Police Media Division issued a statement on Wednesday rejecting reports circulating on social media platforms alleging telephone conversations between Senior Superintendent of Police Indika Lokuhetti and the wife of "Batuwatte Lolla Chamara," identified as a leading figure in organised crime and drug trafficking operations in Sri Lanka.
The force characterised the claims as false and without credible basis. SSP Lokuhetti, who heads the Colombo Crimes Division, has not engaged in any such communications, according to the official statement.
The clarification comes amid heightened public scrutiny of senior police officials and their interactions, particularly those involving suspects in major criminal investigations. The force has not elaborated on the source of the social media reports or provided additional details regarding the allegations.
