Police deploy protection for Christian families in West Bengal after alleged coercion

Police in West Bengal's Chandrakona area have stepped up security measures for Christian families after registering a formal complaint alleging systematic intimidation and violence. The case centers on allegations that 13 individuals affiliated with the Bajrang Dal, a Hindu nationalist organization, orchestrated attacks on Christian households and pressured residents to abandon their faith and return to Hinduism.

The First Information Report (FIR) was filed at Chandrakona police station following complaints from affected community members. Investigators have begun examining the allegations of coordinated attacks and religious coercion, with police deploying protective measures in the affected localities.

The incident reflects ongoing tensions in several Indian states where Christian minorities have reported increased pressure from Hindu nationalist groups. Such cases have drawn scrutiny from civil liberties organizations and church leaders who warn of deteriorating communal harmony in parts of India.

West Bengal authorities said they are treating the matter seriously and have assured the Christian community of adequate protection. The investigation into the charges against the 13 accused individuals remains ongoing.
