Police operatives dismantled a large-scale marijuana plantation in Sugpon town, Ilocos Sur on Sunday, destroying an estimated 3,000 fully mature plants worth roughly P600,000. The illegal growing operation was discovered in Sitio Ogiyet, Barangay Licungan, positioned near the boundary with Barangay Tacadang in Kibungan, Benguet.
The cultivation site, which stretched across approximately 1,000 square meters of mountainous terrain, had been actively producing cannabis plants at an advanced stage of growth. The remote location near the provincial border suggested an organized cultivation effort, though authorities did not immediately disclose details regarding the operation's scope or management.
Police personnel systematically uprooted the marijuana plants during the enforcement action and properly documented and inventoried the contraband in accordance with standard anti-narcotics procedures. The operation underscores ongoing law enforcement efforts to dismantle large-scale drug production operations in remote areas across the Cordillera and neighboring regions.
No arrests were reported in connection with the discovery, and the investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to identify those responsible for establishing and maintaining the clandestine plantation.
