BAGUIO CITY — Law enforcement personnel conducted a successful marijuana eradication operation in Bakun, Benguet on Wednesday, destroying an estimated 2,500 seedlings with an estimated street value of P100,000.
The operation targeted Sitio Lubban in Barangay Kayapa, where authorities discovered the illicit cannabis cultivation. The seedlings were uprooted and subsequently burned as part of the eradication process.
The operation involved coordinated efforts from multiple agencies, including the Bakun Municipal Police Station, Benguet Provincial Mobile Force Company, Provincial Intelligence Unit, Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit, and the Regional Intelligence Division. The multi-agency approach reflects ongoing efforts by authorities to combat illegal drug production in the mountainous province.
The eradication operation underscores persistent challenges with marijuana cultivation in Benguet's remote areas, where challenging terrain and elevation have historically made enforcement operations difficult. Authorities continue to conduct regular patrols and intelligence-gathering operations to detect and dismantle illegal drug operations across the region.
