Police hunt three suspects in P100,000 jewelry scam targeting retiree

The alleged fraud occurred on Tuesday, October 6, at a shopping center in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur, according to police reports. The three suspects approached the elderly victim and convinced her to hand over the valuables through the well-known confidence scheme, which typically involves elaborate stories designed to gain the trust and cooperation of targets.

The victim, a retiree from the government sector, lost personal jewelry and other items valued at around P100,000 in the incident. Police officials from San Francisco, Agusan del Sur, have begun coordinating efforts to locate and apprehend the suspects.

The "budol-budol" scheme remains a persistent problem in the region, with authorities regularly warning residents, particularly senior citizens, to be cautious of unsolicited approaches in public areas. The Surigao del Sur Police Regional Office is urging anyone with information about the suspects or the incident to come forward.
