Police kill accused in Amritsar ASI murder encounter

Police in Amritsar conducted an encounter operation that resulted in the death of a man accused of murdering an ASI, officials said. The operation was conducted after weeks of investigation utilising multiple investigative tools and intelligence gathering methods.

According to police, investigators employed CCTV footage analysis, technical inputs including mobile tower data, call record analysis, local intelligence networks and information from human sources to identify and locate the accused. The multi-pronged investigative approach enabled authorities to narrow down the suspect's movements and whereabouts across the city.

The encounter took place during an operation to apprehend the accused for questioning. Police said the suspect was killed in the subsequent exchange of fire, though details of the exact circumstances remain unclear.
